Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Shift Lock

Shift Lock

As introduced in 1991, the shift lock feature prevents the unintentional movement of the shift lever from Park or Neutral. The TCM controls the operation of the shift lock solenoid.

When the TCM receives KL 87a operating power, the shift lock is activated until the brake pedal is depressed.

Additionally, above 2500 RPM, the selector will remain locked even if the brake pedal is depressed.

The shift lock solenoid's pin engages in the selector lever gate and prevents its movement.
