SUBJECT
E39 with ZF 5HP19; EGS Module Identification with DIS CD 28.0

MODEL
E39 525 iA/iAT, 530iA with 5HP19 produced from 03/2001

SITUATION
"TRANS PROGRAM" displayed and/or transmission in fail-safe mode. During DIS automatic identification, EGS module GS8.60 is incorrectly identified as GS20. No fault status is displayed after short test and no fault memory access or clearing is possible.

CAUSE
Software error in DIS CD 28.0

CORRECTION
Manually identify car as E46. Perform individual short test on "EGS Transmission control 8.60.4". Select "Control unit functions". Fault memory can now be read and cleared.

Software will be corrected as of DIS CD3O.0.
