64 12 060 Removing And Installing/replacing Complete Electric Auxiliary Heating







Risk of burning:
Carry out repair work only after engine has cooled down.







Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove steering column
- Remove storage compartment
- Clamp off battery earth lead







NOTE: Lower instrument panel trim partially shown transparent.

Detach left footwell heating duct (1) in area (2) in direction of arrow.

Detach left footwell heating duct (1) with adapter (3) from heating and air-conditioning unit and remove in direction of arrow from left rear compartment heating duct (4).







Installation note:
Make sure clamp (2) is correctly seated on left footwell heating duct (1).

Insert left footwell heating duct (1) with adapter (3) in left rear compartment heating duct (4).

Attach the left footwell heating duct (1) in area (4) to the heating and air conditioning unit. Make sure assembly is locked exactly at point (5).







If necessary, disengage bleed hose (1) from clamp (2) and detach at point (3) from the heating and air conditioning unit.







Slacken nut (1).

Disconnect the negative lead (2) from the stud bolt and expose to the electric auxiliary heater.

Installation note:
Ensure correct line routing.







Unlock plug connections (1) and (2) and disconnect.

Release screws (3).

Remove electric auxiliary heater (4) in direction of arrow from the heating and air conditioning unit (5).







IMPORTANT: If vehicles with production dates up to 03/2010 require parts replacements, the part number of the auxiliary heater and Works I phase status are absolutely required.

In the case of the following part numbers no additional work is necessary:
- 6 945 032
- 6 962 538
- 6 964 006
- 9 153 884
- 9 175 923

These part numbers may no longer be installed in vehicles with production date from 03/2010

Works I phase status:

- I-09-09-XXX and older: Only the above-mentioned part numbers may be installed.
- From I-09-12-XXX: Only part numbers other than the those mentioned above may be installed.
Carry out vehicle programming/encoding.
- From I-10-03-XXX: Only part numbers other than the those mentioned above may be installed. No additional work necessary.
