SUBJECT
E60 M5 - CAN Communication Fault FFFF

MODEL
M5 with S85 from 09/05 production

SITUATION
During the QC1 inspection, the SMG transmission failsafe warning may be illuminated.

Also, certain CAN related faults may be stored:

^ CAN System Analysis FC FFFF, A777, A778, A774 Communication faults,

^ SMG FC 520A Steering angle sensor signal,

^ SMG FC 520B Lateral acceleration signal.

CAUSE
Communication error, which occurs during battery disconnection or battery switch removal.

CORRECTION
Make sure that SMG control module enters sleep mode prior to battery battery switch disconnection (wait approximately 10 minutes after KL15 is off).

In case, transmission failsafe warning is displayed:

^ Recalibrate steering angle sensor

^ Perform Quick Delete of all modules

^ Perform reset of Tire Monitoring system
