Starter Motor: Service and Repair

12 41 020 - Removing and installing/replacing starter (S65)





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Switch off ignition
- Disconnect battery negative lead 61 20 900 Disconnecting and Connecting Battery Negative Lead and cover
- Remove intake air manifold Service and Repair
- Remove idle actuator 13 41 550 Replacing Idle Actuator
- Remove throttle valve actuating motor 13 62 540 Removing and Installing/Replacing Throttle Valve Actuating Motor on left





Remove idle actuator mounting.





Unlock plug (1) and remove.
Unfasten nut.
Tightening torque 12 41 1AZ Specifications.
Remove battery positive lead (2).





Release screw (1).
Release screws (2).
Tightening torque 12 41 2AZ Specifications.
Pull starter motor out of transmission mount and remove.






Installation Note:
Check starter pinion and ring gear for damage, replace damaged parts if necessary.

Add final details to vehicle.
