Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

System Function Quick Test

Prior to performing steps for system quick test, turn ignition switch "ON," "OFF," and "ON" while observing LEDs on control panel. LEDs should light and repeat in the same positions each time ignition is cycled. Leave ignition switch in "ON" position for three minutes to allow blower relay to time out, and give heat and bi-level functions.
1. Set at "65" and "AUTO." System should respond with cold air at A/C outlets, high blower speed, change in noise level during recirculation and on vehicles so equipped, water valve should close. With system set at same setting, hold small piece of paper over in-car sensor holes. Paper should be held in position by aspirator intake if system is functioning properly. If paper falls or is not held in place, aspirator is not functioning correctly.
2. Set at "85" and "AUTO." System should respond with warm air at heater outlet and high blower speed.
3. Set at "85" and "DEF." System should respond with warm air at defroster outlets and high blower speed.
4. Set at "75" and "BI-LEVEL." System should respond with air at A/C and heater outlets and lowering of blower speed. If blower speed remains high, a sensor fault is indicated.
