Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Glow Plug Controller Diagnosis

1985

1. If there is no voltage at the glow plugs, or a ``Wait'' lamp malfunction, disconnect electrical connector from glow plug controller.
2. Place ignition switch in Run position and check for voltage at connector terminals as well as controller relay stud terminals. Ensure terminal C (black) is grounded.
3. Battery voltage should be indicated at terminals A (dark blue) and B (pink/black) and the red relay terminal. No voltage should be indicated at terminal D (purple) or the green relay terminal.
4. If voltage is not present at terminal A, check ``Wait'' lamp bulb and associated wiring for an open. If voltage at any other terminal is incorrect, check circuit to that terminal.
5. If voltages at connector and relay terminals are correct, replace glow plug controller.
