Shift Linkage: Adjustments

1982-84 CAMARO

1. Place levers (L), (M) and (N) in neutral position, Fig. 2. To obtain neutral position, move levers counterclockwise to forward detent, then clockwise one detent.
2. Move lever (F) to neutral position. Align holes of levers (E), (H) and (J) with notch in lever and bracket assembly, then insert Gauge J-33195 or equivalent to secure levers in neutral position.
3. Attach rod (C) to lever (N) with washer (A) and retainer (B).
4. Loosely assemble nuts (R) and (T) and swivel (S) on rod (C).
5. Insert swivel (S) into lever (E), then attach washer (Q) and secure with retainer (P). Apply a load on lever (N) in direction of arrow (Z). At the same time, finger tighten nuts (T) and (R) against swivel, then torque nuts to 25 ft. lbs.
6. Repeat steps 3, 4 and 5 for rod (D) and levers (J) and (M).
7. Repeat steps 3, 4 and 5 for rod (K) and levers (H) and (L).
8. Remove gauge and check that center lines of shift levers are aligned to provide free crossover motion.
