Timing Cover: Service and Repair



ENGINE FRONT COVER

Remove or Disconnect






1. Coolant pump, refer to Service and Repair

2. Torsional damper, refer to Service and Repair

3. Oil pan, Service and Repair

4. Engine front cover attaching bolts (99).

5. Engine front cover (57).

6. Discard the gasket (100).

7. Clean gasket surface on block and engine front cover (57).

8. Inspect engine front cover (57) for damage or distortion. Replace if necessary.

Install or Connect

NOTICE: When fasteners are removed, always reinstall them at the same location from which they were removed. If a fastener needs to be replaced, use the correct part number fastener for that application. If the correct part number fasten is not available, a fastener of equal size and strength (or stronger) may be used. Fasteners that are not reused, and those requiring thread locking compound will be called out. The correct torque value must be used when installing fasteners that require it. If the above conditions are not followed, parts or system damage could result.






1. Coat a new engine cover gasket (100) with gasket sealant.

2. Install gasket (100) into position on the engine front cover (57).

3. Position the engine front cover (57) and assembled gasket (100) over the crankshaft end.

4. Loosely install the engine front cover-to-block upper attaching bolts (99).

NOTICE: Do not force the engine front cover over the dowels to the point where the cover flange or the dowels become distorted.

5. Tighten bolts (99) alternately and evenly while pressing downward on the engine front cover (57) so the dowels in the block are aligned with the corresponding holes in the engine front cover (57).

6. Remaining cover bolts (99).

7. Tighten all cover bolts (99) alternately and evenly to 11 Nm (97 lb.in).

8. Oil pan, refer to Service and Repair

9. Torsional damper, refer to Service and Repair

10. Coolant pump, refer to Service and Repair
