Removal

1. Drain the engine coolant. See Cooling System.
2. Remove the air cleaner.
3. Remove the air cleaner outlet rear duct.
4. Remove the resonator duct.





5. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the front cover.
6. Remove the drive belt tensioner.
7. Raise and support the vehicle.
8. Remove the crankshaft balancer
9. Remove the oil pan to the front cover bolts.
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Remove the electrical connections.
12. Remove the crankshaft sensor shield.
13. Remove the water pump. See Cooling System.





14. Remove the engine front cover studs and bolts.
15. Remove the engine front cover.
16. Remove the engine front cover gasket.
17. If you are replacing the front cover, disassemble the following parts:
a. The oil filter adapter and pressure relief valve.
b. The camshaft sensor.
18. Clean the engine front cover and the engine block gasket surfaces.
19. Inspect the engine for damage to the seals or gasket surfaces.
20. If the front cover has been replaced, assemble the following parts:
a. The oil filter adapter and pressure relief valve.
b. The camshaft sensor.
