Malfunction Indicator Lamp: Description and Operation
The CHECK ENGINE (
Malfunction Indicator Lamp) Indicator in the Instrument Panel Cluster. The CHECK ENGINE Indicator will illuminate with the Ignition Switch in "RUN" position and engine off. The light will stay on a short time after the engine starts and should go out in 1 to 5 seconds. If the light stays on, or comes on while driving, service to the emission control system may be required. The indicator is controlled via a hardwired connection with the PCM and the IPC.
