Steering Wheel Position Sensor Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Restraint System Service Precautions.

1. Disable the SIR system.
2. Remove the steering column from the vehicle.




3. Remove the steering shaft seal (5).
4. Remove the sensor retainer (4).

Important: If reusing the sensor, it may have to be centered before removal. Refer to Steering Wheel Position Sensor Centering.

5. Remove the sensor assembly (3).
6. Remove the lower spring retainer (2).
7. Remove the adapter and bearing assembly (1).




1. Install the adapter and bearing assembly (1) to the steering shaft assembly.
2. Install the lower spring retainer (2) to the adapter and bearing assembly (1).

Important: Refer to sensor centering before installing your sensor. Refer to Steering Wheel Position Sensor Centering.

Rotate the steering shaft assembly to the 12 o'clock position.

3. Install the sensor assembly (3) onto the steering shaft assembly.
Install the sensor retainer (4) and seal (5) onto the steering shaft assembly.
4. Install the steering column into the vehicle.
5. Enable the SIR system.
