Ignition Switch: Service and Repair




Ignition and Start Switch Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary).

Warning: Refer to SIR Warning SIR Warning.


2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Service and Repair.

3. Remove the Steering Column Trim Covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement.




4. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector (1).

5. Remove the ignition switch to steering column assembly retaining screws (3).

6. Remove the ignition switch (4) from the steering column assembly (2).

Installation Procedure





Note: The ignition switch groove must be correctly aligned with the ignition lock cylinder tongue.

1. Install the ignition switch (4) to the steering column assembly (2).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

2. Install the ignition switch to steering column assembly retaining screws (3).

Tighten the screws to 3 Nm (27 lb in).

3. Connect the ignition switch electrical connector (1).

4. Install the Steering Column Trim Covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement.

5. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary).

6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Service and Repair.
