Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair

1. Drain transaxle fluid into a suitable container, then remove battery.
2. Remove lower engine cover.

3. Remove air cleaner cover and air hose assembly
4. Remove air cleaner element.
5. Remove battery tray and stay.
6. Disconnect shift cable.
7. Disconnect back-up lamp switch connector.
8. Disconnect vehicle speed sensor connector.
9. Remove starter motor.
10. Remove rear roll stopper bracket mounting bolts.
11. Raise transaxle with jack, then remove transaxle mounting bracket nuts.
12. Install engine support tool No. C-4852, or equivalent.
13. Raise and support vehicle.
14. Loosen tie rod end nut.
15. Disconnect stabilizer link and remove damper fork.
16. Loosen end nuts on lateral lower arm and compression lower arm connections.
17. Insert pry bar between transaxle case and driveshaft, then remove driveshaft. Do not remove hub and knuckle from driveshaft.
18. Suspend driveshaft with wire so there are no sharp bends in any of the joints.
19. Remove center member assembly.
20. Remove clutch release cylinder without disconnecting oil lines.
21. Remove front plate and rear plate.
22. Remove transaxle lower case.
23. Support transaxle with suitable jack
24. Remove flex plate bolts while turning crankshaft.

25. Chalk mating marks on flex plate and clutch pressure plate for installation.
26. Press clutch pressure plate into transaxle for easier removal.
27. Remove transaxle assembly mounting bolts and lower transaxle.
28. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten fasteners to specifications.
