Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Component Tests and General Diagnostics

Fig. 4 Acrylic plastic air cleaner cover fabrication dimensions:

6-258 ENGINE
A tachometer, a hand vacuum pump, a digital volt-ohmmeter with a minimum ohms-per-volt input impedance of 10 meg-ohms, a test light (with a No. 158 bulb) and jumper wires are required to test this system.

Also, a clear sheet of acrylic plastic, 15 x 15 inches, 1/4 inch thick and a 1/4 inch hole drilled in location shown in Fig.4, is needed. Before testing, remove air cleaner cover, then install acrylic plastic in place of air cleaner cover and secure with wing nut. When diagnosing system, always wear eye protection. Also, when engine is running, keep hands and arms clear of fan, drive pulleys and belts. Do not wear loose clothing and do not stand in direct line with fan blades.
