Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Manifold Pressure/Vacuum Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Caution:When testing the MAP sensor, insert the tester leads through the back of the connector, ensure that the harness wires are not damaged by the test meter leads.
1. With ignition switch in On position, output voltage at terminal B of MAP sensor should be 4 to 5 volts. With engine idling in Neutral and at operating temperature, voltage at terminal B should be 1.5 to 2.1 volts. With ignition switch in On position, voltage at MAP sensor terminal C should be 4.5 to 5.5 volts.
2. Test ECU terminal C6 for the same voltage described above to verify the wire harness condition. Repair as necessary.
3. Test MAP sensor supply voltage at the sensor connector terminal C. With the ignition ON. The voltage should be 5 volts (± 0.5V). Five volts (± 0.5V) should also be at terminal C14 of the ECU wire harness connector. Repair or replace as necessary.
4. Test the MAP sensor ground circuit at sensor connector terminal A and ECU connector terminal D3. Repair the wire harness if necessary.
