Mitsubishi starters are either direct drive or gear reduction type. The first image shows a direct drive starter motor with an overrunning clutch type starter drive. A solenoid switch is mounted on the starter motor. The second image shows a gear reduction type utilizing a planetary gear assembly to obtain higher rotational speeds with the same torque output.
