Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

TDC AND CRANK ANGLE SENSOR SIGNALS AT MPI CONTROLLER

1. Check for the Top Dead Center (TDC) sensor signal by connecting the positive lead of a high impedance voltmeter to terminal 22 of the Multi-Point Injection (MPI) controller connector (C-24) and the negative lead to a good ground. There should be a 2.0 - 2.5V fluctuating signal from the TDC sensor when the engine is cranked or running. If there is no signal present, check wiring between the MPI controller and the distributor for shorts/opens and repair. If the signal is as described check the Crank Angle sensor signal.
2. Check the Crank Angle sensor by connecting the positive lead of a high impedance voltmeter to terminal 22 of the Multi-Point Injection (MPI) controller connector (C-24) and the negative lead to a good ground. There should be a 1.8 - 2.5V fluctuating signal from the Crank Angle sensor. If there is no signal present, check wiring between the MPI controller and the distributor for shorts/opens and repair. If signal is as described, check controller output.
