Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation

Crankshaft Timing Sensor:

The engine controller uses the input from the crankshaft timing sensor to determine ignition and fuel injector delivery timing. The crankshaft timing sensor senses 4 sets of slots (each set containing 4 slots) cut into the transmission driveplate. Basic ignition timing is set by the position of the last slot in each set. This is a computer controlled timing system -- timing adjustments cannot be made.
