Heater Mode Selector Control Inoperative


MODELS:

1992 (B8) Colt Vista/Summit Wagon


SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Some vehicles built prior to 01-01-92 may have a heater mode selection control that is inoperative due to the air outlet changeover damper cable being bent at the damper lever.


DIAGNOSIS:








If the heater air distribution will not change to a selected outlet when the mode selection knob is turned, remove the left side cover from the floor console (Fig. 1). Visually inspect the air outlet changeover damper cable at the damper lever (Fig. 2). If the cable is a braided type cable and is bent at the damper lever, replace it as described in the repair procedure with a wire type cable. If the vehicle already has the wire type cable, inspect the system for other possible causes and repair them as necessary.

1 Cable, Air Outlet Changeover Damper MB946686


REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This repair procedure involves replacing the air outlet changeover damper cable.

1. Remove the air outlet changeover damper cable as described in the 1992 Colt Vista/Summit Wagon Service Manual, No. 81-270-2113 on page 24-26.

2. Install the new air outlet changeover damper cable as described in the 1992 Colt Vista/Summit Wagon Service Manual, No. 81-270-2113 on page 24-28.
