Wheel Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

Fig 43 Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement:

Replace the wheel speed sensor in numbered sequence shown, noting the following:

1. Use care when handling the pole piece at the tip of the sensor and toothed edge of the rotor.
2. Inspect the speed sensor as follows:
a. Check for damage or for any metallic foreign material has adhered to the pole piece at the sensors tip.
b. Measure resistance of sensor, and ensure it is within 1.4-2.2 Kohms.
c. Check sensor cable for breakage, damage or disconnection.
d. Replace if necessary.
3. Inspect speed sensor insulation resistance by measuring between terminals 1than 2 and the sensor body. Resistance should be 100 Kohms or more. Replace if necessary.
4. Inspect rotor teeth and ensure none are broken or deformed. replace if necessary.
5. When installing rear speed sensor ensure a 0.012-0.035 inch clearance is obtained.
