Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
HINT 1: The throttle position sensor signal is more important in the control of automatic transaxle than in the engine control. Shifting shock and other troubles will be caused if this sensor is faulty.

HINT 2: If the output voltage of the throttle position sensor is out of specification adjust the sensor and check the voltage again.

NOTE: If there is evidence that the fixed speed adjusting screw (SAS) setting has been disturbed, check and adjust the fixed SAS.

SENSOR INSPECTION

Throttle Position Sensor Connector:

1. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.

Throttle Position Sensor Testing:

2. Measure the resistance between the throttle position sensor side connector terminal 1 and terminal 4.

- Standard value: 3.5k - 6.5k ohms

Throttle Position Sensor Testing:

3. Using an analog ohm meter measure the resistance between the throttle position sensor side connector terminal 1 and terminal 3.
4. Slowly open throttle valve to full open position.

- Resistance should change smoothly.

5. If the resistance is outside the standard value or if it doesn't change smoothly replace the throttle position sensor.
