Differential Assembly: Service and Repair

1. Remove driveshafts as described in "Driveshaft, Replace.
2. Position a suitable jack under rear axle assembly, then drain differential gear oil.
3. Scribe mating marks on differential companion flange, propeller shaft flange and flange yoke for assembly reference.
4. Remove differential to propeller shaft connection, then support propeller shaft with wire.
5. Remove companion flange using slide hammer and adapter tool Nos. MB990211 and MB991354, or equivalents.

6. Remove differential carrier rear mounting bolt.
7. Remove differential carrier front mounting bolt and nut.
8. Remove differential carrier.
9. Remove differential front support bracket.
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Do not interchange RH and LH companion flanges.
b. Tighten bolts to specifications shown.
