Front Hub Click/Clunk
THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 02-01-94 DATED JAN. 28, 1994 WHICH SHOULD BE MARKED IN YOUR FILES. PARTS, A NEW REPAIR PROCEDURE AND AN ADDITIONAL MODEL YEAR HAVE BEEN ADDED.

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE MARCH 1, 1995 (MDH 03-O1-XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Click or clunk coming from the front hub area on acceleration or deceleration. This sound can also be heard during a garage shift, drive to reverse, or reverse to drive.
PARTS REQUIRED:
2 4762701 Kit, C/V Sealing Boot
AR 4798998 Joint, Outer C/V, without ABS
AR 4798999 Joint, Outer C/V, with ABS
2 6502541 Nut, Hub Retaining
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This repair involves replacing both outer C/V joints.
1. Remove both drive shafts as described on Pages 2-42 thru 2-43 of the 1995 Concorde/Intrepid/Vision/LHS/New Yorker Service Manual (Publication No. 81-270-5140).
2. Remove large sealing boot retaining clamp from C/V joint with side cutter and discard.
3. Remove small sealing boot retaining clamp on axle shaft with side cutter and discard.
4. Separate sealing boot from C/V joint at large diameter and slide away from joint along axle shaft.
5. Wipe grease from face of C/V inner race.
6. Spread ears on race retaining ring with snap ring pliers and remove C/V joint assembly from axle shaft and discard.
7. Remove old sealing boot from axle shaft and discard.
8. Slide new small boot clamp along axle shaft. Do not crimp.
9. Slide new sealing boot along axle shaft. Do not crimp.
10. Place approximately half of the grease provided inside the new C/V joint.
11. Push new C/V joint onto axle shaft until the retaining ring is fully seated in the groove on the axle shaft.
12. Place the remaining grease inside the new sealing boot and position the small end of boot in groove on the shaft as indicated. Crimp small boot clamp using Crimper, Special Tool C-4975-A.
13. Slide large diameter of sealing boot with large seal retaining clamp in place over outside of C/V joint race and locate seal lip in groove.
14. Clamp large sealing boot retaining clamp using Crimper, Special Tool C-4975-A.
15. Install axle shafts in vehicle as described on Pages 2-43 thru 2-46 of the 1995 Concorde/Intrepid/Vision/LHS/New Yorker Service Manual (Publication No. 81-270-5121). TORQUE FRONT HUB NUTS TO 120 +/- 10 FT. LBS.
