Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Diagnostic Strategies

NOTE: When diagnosing any airbag system, always use the most current DRBII cartridge. A cartridge for the wrong model year will produce the following results when attempting to read codes or diagnosing an air bag system;
- Erroneous data.
- "Checksum Error" or "No Response"

Body System Diagnosis Should Follow Six Steps:

1. Verify Complaint - Read Codes and attempt to repeat complaint symptom.
2. Check for Related Symptoms - Each code is diagnosed by following a specific testing sequence.

NOTE: It is not necessary to perform all of the tests in Diagnostic Charts to diagnose an individual code.

3. Analyze Symptoms - The diagnostic test procedures contain step-by-step instructions for determining the cause of an air bag diagnostic code.
4. Isolate Problem - Possible sources of the code are checked and eliminated one by one, in Diagnostic Charts.
5. Repair Problem
6. Verify Proper Operation

NOTE: Always begin by reading the diagnostic codes. This will direct you to the specific test(s) that must be performed in response to the diagnostic code.
