Air Injection Relief Valve: Testing and Inspection

Fig. 6 - Air Pump Relief Valve Test:

1. With engine operating at idle speed, check relief valve for air flow, Fig. 6. If air flow is noted, replace the relief valve and air pump assembly.

2. Increase engine speed to 3000 RPM on 1972-77 and 4500 on 1978-82. If air flows from the valve, the valve is satisfactory. If air does not flow from the valve or if the valve is excessively noisy, replace the relief valve and air pump assembly.
