The following is provided to avoid confusion on oil level requirements for engines with a dipstick having a "O" fill limit marking. This information pertains to cars built after December, 1982 and trucks built before Job #1, 1983.

Dipsticks on the subject vehicles were incorporated with a "O" mark to indicate a maximum engine oil fill level used during engine assembly ONLY. This calibration compensates for the varying ride angles of the vehicle after engine installation at the assembly plant. Oil level indicated between the upper "SAFE" limit and the "O" limit will be considered as an acceptable factory oil fill only and should never exceed the "O" marking.

FIGURE 5:

Service fill requirements should not exceed the upper "SAFE" mark as indicated in Figure 5.
