ERROR CODES INCORRECT - INCORRECT PART - F SERIES AND BRONCO WITH 5.0L EFI BUILT PRIOR TO 7/1/85
LIGHT TRUCK 1985 F SERIES AND BRONCO
Some of the subject vehicles were assembled with a 1984 carry-over starter solenoid (part number D2SF-11450-AB). The internal design of this part did not contain a suppression diode and therefore could be the source of electrical noise.
Figure 4 - EXTERNAL PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES OF D2SF VS. E5DF STARTER RELAY FOR QUICK IDENTIFICATION:
During self check, this potential noise source could result in the generation of erroneous service codes and result in the unnecessary replacement of the EEC IV components. Prior to replacement of any EEC IV components, check the above vehicles for the presence of the suspect starter solenoid (D2SF-11450-AB) and if found, replace it with the correct solenoid (E5TZ-11450-A) (See Figure 4). If service codes were present in the Keep-Alive Memory (KAM) prior to solenoid replacement, clear KAM and repeat the Quick Test to confirm or deny the existence of valid service codes before proceeding with repairs.
Authorized Modifications Decal:
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
