- PROPER RETENTION

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1986 SABLE

Loose and/or missing hood release assist springs may be caused by the spring rubber bumper sticking to the painted surface of the radiator support. This sticking causes the spring to pull out of the retaining tabs. To correct this condition, properly install the hood release assist spring to the hood (3) retaining tabs. (Reference Shop Manual, page 44-08-02). Then, lube the assist spring rubber bumper with a daub of silicone grease (C0AZ-19553-A) to prevent future sticking.

1. Install hood release assist spring to the hood assembly. See Figure 2.

2. Lube assist spring rubber bumper (use silicone grease C0AZ-19553-A). See Figure 2.
