Brake Light Switch: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect electrical connector from switch. On vehicles equipped with standard brakes, the locking tab must be lifted before electrical connector can be removed.
3. On vehicles equipped with standard brakes, remove retainer, then slide the switch, pushrod, white nylon washer and bushing away from pedal. Remove switch from vehicle, Fig. 2.
4. On vehicles equipped with power brakes, remove retainer and outer white nylon washer from pedal pin. Slide switch off brake pedal pin far enough so that outer side of plate of switch clears pin. Remove switch, Fig. 2.
