Owner Notification Program B83 - Hydraulic Clutch Controls on Certain 1988-Model Ranger and Bronco II Trucks

Vehicles Affected
Vehicles involved in this program are 1988-model Bronco II and Rangers manufactured at the Louisville Assembly Plant from July 24, 1987 through August 6, 1987.

REASON FOR THIS PROGRAM
The hydraulic clutch control assemblies in the affected trucks were manufactured with clutch master cylinders having 1987-model year push rods.

The push rod permits normal clutch disengagement control and activates a clutch interlock switch. This switch prevents engine start unless the clutch pedal is fully depressed and controls engine idle and "on/off" operation of the speed control.

WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN
Since the installed push rod is not compatible with the hydraulic clutch control assembly in the affected trucks, the clutch interlock switch will not function properly, the speed control will not remain operative and engine idle quality may be adversely affected. In addition, the engine may be started with only partial depression of the clutch pedal.

PROGRAM PROVISIONS
Owners of record will be notified to return their trucks for a no-charge inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the hydraulic clutch control master cylinder assemblies.

PROGRAM LIMITATIONS
Owners will be encouraged to return their trucks as soon as possible for the service provided by this program. This service will be performed during the base vehicle

warranty period (12-months from the in-service date or 12,000 miles of operation, whichever comes first). Dealer stock units must be serviced prior to delivery to customers.

RETURN OF PARTS
Removed pushrod assemblies are to be returned, prepaid freight to Automotive Products, Inc. The address is contained in Attachment 1.

ACTION BY FORD
Attachment I contains technical and administrative instructions for the inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the clutch control assembly master cylinder.

Enclosed is a listing of affected vehicles delivered to your dealership. To assist in vehicle identification, this program will also be entered in CARES and OASIS.

Owners will be notified with customer letter.

Your parts and service personnel must be provided with this package. They must be familiar with the program to respond to owner inquiries.
