Recall - Throttle Position Sensor Screw Replacement: Overview

88ford15

PLEASE ENSURE THAT COPIES OF THIS BULLETIN ARE ROUTED TO YOUR PARTS AND, SERVICE PERSONNEL

March, 1988

To: Selected North American Ford and Lincoln-Mercury Dealers and Affiliated Ford Motor Companies

Subject: Safety Recall 88S40 - 1988 Tempo/Topaz - Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Disengagement

VEHICLES AFFECTED

All 1988 Tempo/Topaz vehicles built from Job #1 through January 4, 1988.

REASON FOR THIS RECALL

The screws that retain Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on the engine may back out allowing the sensor to loosen and potentially to disengage from the throttle shaft. A disengaged sensor may prevent the throttle from returning to idle.

To correct this condition, dealers are asked to inspect all involved units and replace the throttle position sensor retaining screws on all vehicles not having been previously modified.
