Distributor: Service and Repair

Distributor (Typical) - Exploded View:

Removal
1. Disconnect primary wiring connector from distributor.
2. Using a screwdriver, remove distributor cap and position aside with wires attached.
3. Remove distributor rotor, then two distributor hold-down bolts.
4. Remove distributor assembly.

Installation
1. Install distributor in cylinder head, seating offset tang of drive coupling into groove on end of camshaft.
2. Install hold-down bolts and tighten so distributor can be barely rotated, then the rotor.
3. Connect primary wiring connector to distributor, then install cap and Torque screws to 18-23 inch lbs.
4. Check ignition timing and adjust if necessary, then Torque distributor hold-down bolts to 5.9-8.5 ft. lbs.
