ISSUE: A new design air conditioning compressor was introduced on 4/01/88 for Taurus/Sable vehicles equipped with 3.0L EFI engines. The new FX-15 compressor may be identified by the attachment location of the refrigerant hoses at the rear of the compressor, Figure 2.
ACTION: If service is required on the new FX-15 A/C compressor or clutch, the entire A/C compressor and clutch assembly must be replaced. The old compressor and clutch assembly must be tagged with a FPS-700 return tag and then returned to the Warranty Parts Return Center, Plymouth, Michigan. This service procedure is effective from 4/01 /88 to the end of the 1989 model year.
NOTE: The only authorized service procedure other than assembly replacement is the replacement of the refrigeration hose assembly manifold O-rings at the rear of the FX-15 A/C compressor
