Drive Belt: Service and Repair

1. Loosen accessory adjustment bolt and pivot bolt.
2. Remove belt.
3. Reverse procedure to install, adjust belt tension as follows:
a. Using suitable belt tension gauge, loosen adjustment bolts.
b. Tighten pivot bolt enough to remove free play from pivot area.
c. To adjust all belts except alternator, install square drive ratchet wrench or breaker bar to square hole in accessory bracket and tighten belt to correct tension.
d. To adjust alternator belt, place adjustable wrench on top lug of alternator and rotate alternator until belt is tighten to proper tension.
e. Tighten adjustment bolt to specifications.
f. Remove square driver tool or C-clamp.
g. Tighten pivot bolt to specifications.
h. Check and readjust belt, as required.
i. Start engine and allow to idle for at least five minutes.
j. Recheck tension and adjust as required.
