ISSUE: Speedometer needle fluctuation may occur during initial acceleration or when the car slows to about 5 to 10 mph (8 to 16 km/h). The speedometer needle could jump between 15 to 20 mph (24 to 32 km/h). This is caused by electrical spikes from the speed sensor input to the speedometer.

ACTION: Install a new speed sensor (E9LZ-9E731-A). Refer to the 1990 Thunderbird/Cougar Shop Manual, Page 37-05-7, for service details.
