Engine Control Module: Description and Operation

Electronic Control Assembly (ECA):

The microprocessor, called the Electronic Control Assembly (ECA), receives data from sensors and other electronic components (switches, relays, etc.). The ECA contains a specific calibration for each vehicle model for optimizing emissions, fuel economy, and driveablity. Based on information received and programmed into its memory, the ECA generates output signals to control various relays, solenoids, and other actuators. The ECA serves as the brain of the Electronic Engine Control (EEC) system with the capability of failure detection and self-diagnosis.
