Heated Glass Element: Description and Operation
The Rear Window Defrost System is powered by the 15A Fuse 5 of the Interior Fuse Panel which is hot with the Ignition Switch in the RUN position and the 40A Maxi-fuse 6 of the Power Distribution Box which is hot at all times.
Pressing the momentary defrost switch ON closes the contacts of the defrost relay and starts a ten minute (approximately) timing cycle. When the defrost switch is released form ON, the solid state circuitry keeps the defrost relay energized. Current flows from the 40A Maxi-fuse 6 of the Power Distribution Box through the Defrost Relay contacts to the Rear Window Defrost Grid. Pressing the defrost switch to OFF de-energizes the defrost relay, removing power from the Rear Window Defrost Grid. If the OFF switch is not pressed, power will remain on until the time delay runs out. Then the relay will de-energize, removing power from the Rear Window Defrost Grid.
