Distributor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

Distributor Wiring Harness Connector.:





2. Disconnect distributor electrical connector near distributor.
3. Remove distributor cap and position aside.
4. Position No. 1 piston at TDC of compression stroke.
5. Mark position of distributor in engine and position of rotor on distributor housing for installation reference.
6. Remove distributor hold-down bolts and remove distributor from engine.

NOTE: Do not crank engine after distributor has been removed.

7. Remove O-ring from distributor.

INSTALLATION

1. Install new O-ring on distributor and lubricate with engine oil.
2. Ensure No. 1 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke.
3. Align the reference marks on the distributor housing and cylinder head and install the distributor.

NOTE: Ensure distributor drive gear is engaged into camshaft slot when installing distributor to engine.

4. Connect distributor harness.
5. Replace distributor cap and wires.
6. Connect negative battery cable.
7. Set ignition timing to specifications.
