Knock Control Unit (KCU)

Knock Control Unit (KCU):

PURPOSE
The Knock Control Unit (KCU) acts as a signal filter which only allows knock signals considered above normal engine vibrations to reach the ECA. The ECA then retards ignition timing and as needed.

LOCATION
Engine compartment, center of firewall.

OPERATION
When engine vibration occurs, voltage signal generated by the knock sensor is sent through the KCU to the ECA. The KCU acts as a signal filter which only allows knock signals considered above normal engine vibrations to reach the ECA.
