System Inspection

1. Inspect Inlet Air System and related components. Check for:

^ Discharged battery.
^ Damaged, loose connections.
^ Damaged insulation.
^ Malfunctioning Electronic Control Assembly (ECA).
^ Damaged air flow meter.
^ Loose, kinked, pinched, or damaged air or vacuum lines.
^ Loose, damaged vacuum line connections.
^ Symptoms of poor driveability.

2. Exercise wiring and connections for Vane Air Flow (VAF) meter, Vehicle Speed (VSS) sensor, Throttle Position (TP) sensor, Vane Air Temperature (VAT) sensor, Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor, Idle Speed Control (ISC) valve, and Electronic Control Assembly (ECA). Check for obvious problems due to looseness, corrosion, or damage. Perform this check with engine running.
3. Check air hoses, vacuum lines, and connections for looseness, pinching, kinking, or other obvious damage.
4. Check air intake tubes for cracking between bellows folds.
5. Check tubes and hoses for contact with battery, main fuse box, and steel lines.
6. If any component is suspected as the cause of a malfunction, repair the problem before proceeding to the next step.
7. If all checks are OK, proceed to Pinpoint Tests.
