THIS MODIFICATION IS AUTHORIZED ONLY FOR THE LISTED ENGINE. PERFORMING THIS MODIFICATION ON OTHER ENGINE CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.
ISSUE:
Cold starting concerns such as long cold starting times, stall or rough idle may be experienced when using summer grade fuels in southern regions. These concerns are caused by the operating strategy of the EEC IV Processor.
ACTION:
Install a new EEC IV Processor with a revised operating strategy. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. If the engine has a cold start time greater than 4 seconds with 30-70~F (-1-21~C) air temperatures and can be made to start by cycling the key OFF and ON, use the following Steps before attempting to start the vehicle a second time.
2. Check the fuel pressure and leak down time to see if they are within specification in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual.
3. If it is necessary to cycle the ignition key OFF and ON and the engine starts within two (2) seconds, then replace the EEC IV Processor. Refer to the Parts Block of this article for correct parts usage.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
