Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL


1. Locate Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen (HEGO) sensors located in the left and right exhaust pipes.
2. Disconnect the electrical connectors from sensors.

CAUTION: Excessive force may damage threads in exhaust pipe.

3. Remove sensors by unscrewing counterclockwise. The oxygen sensors may be difficult to remove when engine temperature is below 120°F.



INSTALLATION


1. If new sensors are being used, install the new sensors into the pipes.
2. If old sensors are being reused, coat threads with anti-seize compound, then install the HEGO sensors in the exhaust pipes.
3. Tighten the sensors to 30 ft lb (41 Nm).
4. Connect the electrical connectors to sensors.
