Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation

Volume Air Temperature (VAT) Sensor:






PURPOSE
The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor measures inlet air temperature and provides an input signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The signal is used by the PCM in calculations for air/fuel ratio, purge control, and idle speed.

OPERATION
Sensor is a device whose resistance changes with temperature. The PCM interprets these variations as temperature fluctuations.
