Air Cleaner Housing: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

2. Disconnect the engine air cleaner Intake tube from the air cleaner lower cover.

3. Loosen the screw-type engine air cleaner tube clamp securing the air cleaner to intake manifold tube to the Volume Air Flow (VAF) and pull the air cleaner to intake manifold tube from the volume air flow meter.

4. Disconnect the VAF electrical connector from the LH side of the engine air cleaner upper cover.

5. If equipped, remove the speed control vacuum hose from the retaining clip on the front of the air cleaner upper cover.

6. Remove the fuel pressure regulator bolt from the RH side of the engine air cleaner upper cover and position it out of the way.

7. Remove the engine air cleaner nuts and bolt.

8. Remove the engine air cleaner from the vehicle.

9. It necessary, remove the two VAF meter bolts from the engine air cleaner upper cover and remove the VAF meter.

INSTALLATION

To install, reverse the removal procedure. Tighten the engine air cleaner nuts and bolts to 19-25 Nm (14-18 lb ft). Tighten the VAF meter bolts to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb in).
