Oil Pump: Service and Repair



Oil Pump

Note:
This procedure is included in the engine disassembly and assembly procedure so modifications may be required if performing the procedure as an in vehicle service operation.

Disassembly

Oil Filter And Oil Pump:






1. If necessary, remove oil filter.
2. Remove oil pump cover attaching bolts and remove cover.
3. Lift pump gears off pocket in front cover.
4. Remove cover gasket and discard.

Inspection of Pump Cover Flatness

1. Remove all traces of seal material from pump cover.
2. Place a straightedge across mounting surface of pump cover and measure for wear or warpage using a feeler gauge.
3. If surface is out of flat by more than O.O4mm (0.0016 inch) replace cover.

Assembly

1. If necessary, remove pump gears from cover.
2. Lightly pack gear pocket with petroleum jelly or coat all gear surfaces with Oil Conditioner D9AZ-19579-CA (ESR-M99C80-C) or equivalent.
Do not use chassis lubricants.
3. Install gears in cover pocket. Ensure petroleum jelly fills all voids between gears and pocket.

Caution: Failure to properly coat the oil pump gears may result in failure of the pump to prime when engine is started.

4. Position cover gasket and install pump cover.
5. Tighten pump cover attaching bolts to 25-30 Nm (18-22 ft-lbs).
