EGR Valve: Service and Repair


EGR System:








REMOVAL



1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
2. Allow engine to cool sufficient before proceeding.


WARNING: EGR components transport hot exhaust gases. Contact with hot EGR components may cause severe burns. Wear protective gloves or allow the vehicle sufficient time to cool.


3. Loosen EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube retaining nuts at both ends.
4. Disconnect EGR pressure feedback sensor (PFE) hose from EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube.
5. Disconnect EGR vacuum regulator (EVR) hose from EGR valve.
6. Remove EGR valve retaining bolts. Remove EGR valve and discard gasket.
7. Remove EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube.
8. Remove EGR valve tube to manifold connector.


INSTALLATION


NOTE: Lightly oil all bolts and threads prior to installation.

1. Install EGR valve tube to manifold connector into exhaust manifold noting correct orientation.
2. Install EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube to adaptor. Do not tighten.
3. Install EGR valve and new gasket. Start EGR tube retaining bolts.
4. Tighten EGR tube retaining nuts.
5. Install PFE hose to EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube.
6. Install EVR hose to EGR valve.
7. Install battery ground cable.
8. Start engine and check for exhaust and vacuum leaks.
