Valve Spring Retainer: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove hydraulic lash adjusters.

3. Install two valve spring compressor brackets T89P-6565-A2, or equivalent, onto necessary camshaft cap bolt holes as shown.
4. Install valve spring compressor bar T87C-6565-A, or equivalent, through bracket assemblies.
5. Install a 1/2 inch drive socket handle onto spring compressor.
6. Align spring compressor squarely over valve spring upper seat, then compress spring and remove valve keepers with a magnet.
7. Release spring compressor and remove valve spring upper seat, valve spring, valve spring lower seat, and valve.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Lubricate valve stem prior to installation.
b. When installing valve spring, ensure compressed end of spring goes into cylinder head first.
c. After installation, tap end of valve stem lightly with a plastic hammer to ensure keepers are fully seated.
