Neutral Safety Switch: Description and Operation
PURPOSEThis Manual Lever Position Switch allows driver to start vehicle in "Park" or "Neutral" position only.
OPERATION
With the Ignition Switch in START and the Clutch Start Switch closed (manual transaxle) or the Manual Lever Position Switch in PARK or NEUTRAL (automatic transaxle), current flows through the Ignition Switch, and the Starter Assembly to ground. The Starter Assembly Pull-in and Hold windings are energized and the Starter assembly contacts close. Current then flows from the Battery to the Starter Assembly, and the Starter Motor runs to crank the engine.
