Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system.
3. Remove air intake duct from throttle body.
4. Disconnect throttle cable, then remove vacuum hoses from upper intake manifold.
5. Disconnect electrical connections at throttle body, upper and lower intake manifold, then distributor.
6. Remove upper intake manifold assembly.
7. Remove distributor cap and wires, mark position of rotor and distributor housing, then remove distributor.
8. Remove rocker arm covers.
9. Remove intake manifold bolts. Note the length of bolts during removal so they can be installed in their original positions.
10. Remove intake manifold.
11. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Apply sealant to surfaces of upper and lower intake manifold prior to installation.

b. Refer to tightening sequence shown in Fig. 3, then torque intake manifold to 24 ft lb.
